Saturdays are for adventures!

When was the last time you tried something new? Or went somewhere new?

My husband always says I want to do it all, and he's not really exaggerating. He jokes that he really needs a vacation after a vacation with me! Thankfully though, he entertains my desires to chase down a good sunset and a good sale!

It's true though, I have a desire to see and experience as much as I can .. unfortunately budget and time determine what I can actually manage to fit in and enjoy.

The last few Saturdays have had their share of adventures waiting on us, and have included some new places and activities as well!

First up was a trip to Philpott Lake in Bassett, VA.We joined a family from church who have a boat and house on the lake. We had a fun day hanging out on the boat (until it rained!) and I [attempted] to learn how to ski! I'm looking forward to hopefully returning to the area over the summer for a camping trip!

The next week we headed off for a weekend getaway to the mountains .. oh those mountains that I love so dearly! We had bought a Groupon a while back to Grandfather Mountain so we stayed in nearby Boone Friday night. This was my first time in the area and I can't wait to return! Other than Grandfather Mountain we didn't really have any plans, which is kind of unusual for me, but sometimes it's fun to just set off and see where you end up. Friday night we were craving Mexican so we ended up at Cilantro's in downtown Boone.

Saturday morning was a rather adventurous trip to Grandfather Mountain that involved braving some crazy wind and intense fog, but we made it across the Mile High Bridge anyway. Ya'll, you could see nothing the first time we walked across the bridge! The wind made it difficult to even move. We waited around and ended up with about a 15-20 minute window where the fog cleared away and we quite literally ran back up on the Bridge! It didn't last long though before the view was gone again.

After Grandfather Mountain we took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where the fog was gone and it was beautiful. We stopped a at a few places and took a short walk down to the Lin Cove Viaduct. We ended up in Blowing Rock, NC, which is a really charming small town. After some exploring and ice cream downtown, we headed back home to Greensboro.

I'm so glad I get to share so many of these adventures with my best friend. I'm grateful we have made it a priority in our marriage to spend intentional time together and to live life side by side. Sometimes it is just everyday things and sometimes it is extraordinary adventures .. at least to us. And I also love being able to document and share these stories here. It may not matter much to others, but it matters to me.

So thanks for sharing in a piece of our adventure .. and come back soon to see I celebrated my birthday! :)
