cheers to 2013!

Well the countdown is on and there is only hours left in 2013!

Everyone has been posting end of year reflections and dreams and hopes for 2014. To be honest, it just seems a little overwhelming. I always find myself needing a few more days to catch up. I have some thoughts about 2014 but I am not quite ready to put them into writing yet.

So, instead, I will reflect on 2013. Back on January 1 I committed to the One Word Resolution. My word was grateful. I felt, and still do, God calling me to become more thankful in my life. I have to say, I did think about this word on a daily basis. When I started complaining, I felt a gentle reminder to find something to be thankful about. One day while driving I even came across a license plate with the phrase on it!

Did I grow as much as I had hoped? Probably not, but it was growth just the same. I could have been more intentional about writing down what I was grateful for but I did familiarize myself more with what God's word says about thankfulness. And I did spend time each morning in prayer while I was getting ready for my day.

Some of my other goals for 2013 included creating, exercising, enjoying, adventure. Did I make progress? Well we did join a gym and take steps towards a healthier lifestyle! (Although the Holidays have set us back.) I also created and maintained this blog among many DIY home projects and crafts. There were of course moments of enjoyment and others that could have been more enjoyable and we did squeeze in a few adventures here and there. All in all, not too shabby!

2013 was a different year for Justin and I, in a good way. It was a year we felt settled and didn't go through any drastic changes and transitions. We didn't move, we didn't change jobs, nobody graduated -- we just spent lots of time together helping each other through everyday life. I know grown-up married life can sometimes seem boring, but there is beauty in doing the simple, mundane tasks of life together and I wouldn't want to do them with anyone else.

Some highlights from 2013:

*Mini-vacation to Chattanooga, TN back in January

*LOTS of DIY home improvement projects! We started with our front yard, upgraded our fireplace, our bathrooms (here and here), kitchen cabinets, added some decor to our dining room, and more.

*Celebrating our 2nd Anniversary in June!

*Traveling to the NC Coast for a mission trip

*Vacation in Charleston, SC in July

*Exploring and hiking nearby destinations. (Although not as much as I would have liked!)

*Spending time with family and friends back home in NC .. although again, not as much as I would have liked.

*Learning to love better and being loved better by that husband of mine!

So cheers to 2013 and hellloooo to 2014!
